Michael Rodak

Portrait Photographer

My father was an avid photographer and taught me much of what I know. From the very basics to some fairly advanced techniques. This was back in the days of film so we spent a lot of time in his small darkroom developing film and making prints. I would put these skills to good use in the Navy where I served for eight years. I was a crew member of the nuclear submarine U.S.S. Miami (SSN-755). Several of my photographs appeared in the Tom Clancy book ‘Submarine’, as well as some Navy official publications. I was also once assigned to assist National Geographic writer, photographer Dr. Renee Duplais in her time aboard the Miami.

After my time in the Navy was up I used my G.I. Bill to attend college at The Art Institute of Seattle where I studied portrait and fashion photography under some very talented instructors. Once I graduated I began freelancing for local fashion shops and well as taking actors headshots. I was fortunate to land a job with a Seattle based seamstress who was making newly redesigned Playboy Bunny costumes and needed photographs of the costumes both with and without models.
